Animal Group Offers Prizes for Proud Rescue Parents

Sydney – It’s no secret that rescued animals make the best friends, so PETA is on the lookout for Australia’s cutest! Including all entries of the furry, feathered, or scaly variety, PETA’s Cutest Adopted Companion Animal competition aims to showcase how beautiful, loyal, and healthy animals from shelters can be with just a little TLC.

PETA is looking for great photos and inspirational stories, and one lucky animal will be crowned the cutest for 2016, with up to seven second-prize winners. The winning animal’s guardian will receive a PETA logo T-shirt, a certificate, a Sweet Treat Hamper full of goodies from The Cruelty Free Shop, and a pack of animal treats, and the winner will be featured on the PETA website.

“As any rescue parent would know, no pedigree or price tag is equal to saving a homeless animal’s life”, says Associate Director for Campaigns Ashley Fruno. “We hope to encourage people to adopt their next best friend.”

Every year in Australia, hundreds of thousands of kittens and puppies are born in unwanted litters – far more than can ever be placed in good homes. Those who are not adopted – at least 20,000 healthy cats and dogs – must be euthanised.
