26 June 2014

Melbourne – For rescuing a dog who was close to death in a burning house in Doveton, the crews of the Hallam and Dandenong fire brigadeswill receive Hero to Animals Awards from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Australia.

The dog was found in the front room of the house by firefighter Neil Poulton from the Dandenong brigade, who was wearing a breathing apparatus to protect himself from the blaze. The animal was handed over to volunteer firefighter Dennis Vlug from the Hallam brigade, who administered oxygen and warmed the dog with a blanket until he recovered. For their efforts, the crews of the Dandenong and Hallam fire brigades will receive framed certificates and letters of appreciation from PETA.

“The compassion and heroism shown by firefighters of the Country Fire Authority are truly an inspiration”, says PETA Australia Director of Campaigns Jason Baker. “Victorian residents are very fortunate to have emergency personnel who are ready to protect and serve both residents and their beloved animal companions.”
