25 June 2014

Melbourne – For rescuing a dog who was stranded on the roof of an apartment in Port Melbourne, the Metropolitan Fire Brigadewill receive a Hero to Animals Award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Australia.

The dog was on the fourth-storey roof of an apartment building on Rouse Street and was clearly unable to make it to safety. In pouring rain, a member of the fire brigade was lowered onto the roof and rescued the pup. For its efforts, the crew of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from PETA.

“The compassion and heroism shown by members of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade are truly an inspiration”, says PETA Australia Director of Campaigns Jason Baker. “Victorian residents are very fortunate to have emergency personnel who are ready to protect and serve both residents and their beloved animal companions.”
