For Immediate Release:
2 October 2014

Sydney – For rescuing two dogs who were hiding behind a couch in a burning house in Castlecrag, Fire & Rescue NSW will receive a Hero to Animals Award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Australia.

The dogs, Jake and Jade, were trapped in the burning house. Firefighters reported that Jake was covering Jade to protect her from the danger. Jade sustained a burnt paw, but both dogs are well. For its efforts, the crew of Fire & Rescue NSW will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from PETA.

“The compassion and heroism shown by members of Fire & Rescue NSW are truly an inspiration”, says PETA Australia Director of Campaigns Jason Baker. “Sydney residents are very fortunate to have emergency personnel who are ready to protect and serve both residents and their beloved animal companions.”
