Media and Celebrity Engagement Officer – PETA Australia

Position Objectives:

  • To advance PETA’s work, particularly our promotion of vegan living (which includes but is not limited to animal-friendly food, fashion, and entertainment), by initiating and delivering attention-grabbing campaigns and celebrity projects
  • To act as PETA Australia’s on-the-ground representative on social and in traditional media
  • To ensure the visibility of PETA campaigns across various media platforms, working with the wider team to ensure our campaigns gain coverage in traditional media and are shared on social media

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Initiate and execute projects that encourage the public to embrace vegan lifestyle choices, including animal-friendly fashion – in line with our campaigns against the use of animal skins and wool – as well as entertainment and food
  • Organise and manage all aspects of PETA celebrity projects
  • Identify and conduct research on celebrities and influencers to determine their appropriateness for PETA campaigns
  • Engage, where appropriate, celebrities and influencers to enhance our promotion of animal rights through a range of attention-grabbing campaigns
  • Contact celebrities and influencers and/or their management to propose and oversee their involvement in print, billboard, video, and social media campaigns and conduct other general outreach (such as letters on PETA’s behalf)
  • Organise and manage photo and video shoots, including but not limited to liaising with photographers and videographers and sourcing costumes and props
  • Work with the wider team to ideate campaigns, then work autonomously and proactively to implement them
  • Liaise with partners and suppliers to plan campaigns and bring them to life
  • Create and manage campaign concept memos to ensure activity runs smoothly, and follow up with campaign reports detailing successes and lessons
  • Engage the wider team to achieve maximum exposure for celebrity campaigns
  • Develop and maintain relationships with advertising companies for the placement of billboards and street advertising opportunities
  • Track and analyse the results of each media pitch and adjust efforts accordingly
  • Act as a spokesperson for PETA and conduct interviews when required
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor 


  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver presentations, address and overcome objections, and negotiate and close deals
  • Proven exceptional organisational and research skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation and the ability to advocate its positions on issues in a professional manner
