Coffs Coast Puppy Farm Plans Withdrawn!

Dog lovers, we have reason to rejoice!

Earlier this year, plans were submitted to Coffs Harbour City Council for a 30-dog breeding facility in Moonee Beach. More than 11,800 PETA supporters objected, and now, the applicant has withdrawn the proposal.

There’s no question about it: puppy farms contribute to the homeless-animal crisis. Every puppy bred and sold by such a facility takes away a chance at a loving home for a dog in a shelter. Approximately 200,000 dogs enter Australia’s shelters and pounds every year, and around 44,000 of them are euthanised. There are – and will continue to be – far more dogs needing homes than there are homes for them, so breeding more is not only irresponsible but also deadly.

A staggering number of development applications for puppy farms are being submitted in New South Wales as breeders move across the border from Victoria, where breeding laws have tightened. An estimated 200 puppy farms are already in operation across New South Wales.

Breeders are also keen to cash in on the “pandemic puppy” market, pumping out litter after litter of “designer” dogs with genetic disorders and behavioural problems.
