Willunga Animal Lover Scoops Prize in PETA Contest

Adelaide – After entering a PETA competition which attracted hundreds of entrants from across Australia, Willunga singer Julia Henning has been crowned South Australia’s Sexiest Vegan Next Door! The 26-year-old is a volunteer animal rescue worker, cat foster carer, student studying psychology and animal behaviour, and singer. After being vegetarian for 10 years, she recently went vegan and says it’s the best decision she’s ever made.

“If we all just stopped for a moment and truly thought about how we treat animals, I believe most people would see the truth in veganism,” says Henning. “I love being vegan. I’ve never felt better, and I feel good knowing that I’m making a difference.”

The contest – modelled after PETA’s iconic Sexiest Vegan Celebrity contest, which has featured stars such as Today Extra‘s David Campbell, Olympian Morgan Mitchell, and model Bridget Malcolm – shows that gorgeous men and women who are meat-, dairy-, and egg-free can be found all over Australia, which last year topped Google Trends data for searches of the word “vegan”.

“A fit body, a healthy heart, and a clear conscience are just some of the benefits of eating vibrant plant-based meals,” says PETA Associate Director of Campaigns Ashley Fruno. “Julia is a testament to how sexy vegans are – inside and out.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that, while vegans obviously have big hearts, studies show that they have healthier ones, too. In addition to slashing their risk of developing heart disease, they’re less prone to suffering from cancer, diabetes, and obesity.

Henning will receive a slew of prizes, including a PETA T-shirt, a Kind Cartel tote, and a voucher to spend at Cakeboy Donuts.
