Group Announces Australia’s Best Vegan Doughnuts on National Doughnut Day

Adelaide – Today, on National Doughnut Day, PETA has announced its list of the Top Six Vegan Doughnuts in Australia, and Cakeboy Donuts in Bowden has nabbed a spot for its delicious Tim Tam Slam doughnut. The vegan bakery offers a number of other varieties, including the classic Homer Simpson and the chocolate-drizzled Peppermint Slice.

“The Tim Tam Slam delivers huge flavour with zero cruelty,” says PETA spokesperson Emily Rice. “The egg and dairy industries cause chickens and cows extreme suffering and also damage the environment, but no one has to give up tasty treats in order to protect animals and the planet. Bakeries such as Cakeboy Donuts make it easy to indulge your sweet tooth without causing any harm.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that cows and chickens are smart, social, sensitive animals who love their families and value their own lives. At the abattoir, they’re shackled upside down and their throats are slit – sometimes while they’re still conscious.

Every person who goes vegan not only spares more than 100 animals a year profound misery and a terrifying death but also reduces his or her risk of suffering from heart attacks, obesity, diabetes, and numerous other ailments. And a report from the United Nations found that a global switch to vegan eating is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change.

Rounding out PETA’s list are Flour of Life Bakery in Helensvale, Donut Empire in Mackay, Bistro Morgan in Melbourne, Claire’s Cupcakes in Newcastle, and Kissing Chickens in Townsville. Special mentions go to nationwide chain San Churro for its The Happy Vegan churro bowl, Rhubarb Bakes in Sydney for its passionfruit-flavoured doughnuts, and Mister Nice Guy’s Bakeshop in Melbourne for its Bronuts Holes.
