First Responders Act Fast to Save the Animal From Deep Mine Shaft

Ballarat – Because its staff acted quickly to rescue a distressed puppy from a mine shaft, Ballarat Fire Brigade will receive a Hero to Animals Award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

After 1-year-old Macey fell a colossal 12 metres down the abandoned shaft on Sunday, first responders rushed to the scene and worked for more than three hours to pull her to safety. The pup is now safe and back with her family.

“We hope the compassion and quick action shown by the rescuers inspire others to come to the aid of an animal in need,” says PETA spokesperson Emily Rice, “Ballarat Fire Brigade is very fortunate to have such caring employees.”
