Hearty Plant-Based Patties That Satisfy Cravings While Saving Animals and the Environment Allow People to ‘Have Their Burger and Eat It, Too’
Canberra – The buzz surrounding delicious vegan burgers has never been louder: celebrity chef David Chang recently raved about a juicy vegan beef burger, and GQ magazine in the US crowned a nutty plant-based patty the Best Burger of the Year. As Australians prepare to celebrate National Burger Day tomorrow, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Australia has ranked the Top 10 Vegan Burgers – and Pâtissez’s Veg Head Burger in Canberra came in fourth.
Best known for its vegan Freakshake, Pâtissez’s burger game is not to be underestimated. With a herbed chickpea, corn and sweet potato patty, along with heaps of roasted veggies and vegan aioli, the Veg Head is a guaranteed hit.
“These vegan creations are sure to satisfy even the mightiest burger craving”, says PETA Australia Associate Director Ashley Fruno. “All the juicy plant-based burgers on PETA’s list prove that reliance on animal protein is old-fashioned and that the future of food is sustainable and cruelty-free.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that industrialised animal agriculture emits half of the world’s methane and the United Nations and has called for reduced consumption of animal-derived foods in order to combat climate change. Vegans spare many animals daily suffering and a terrifying death each year and are less prone to suffering from cancer, obesity and diabetes than meat-eaters are.
Rounding out PETA’s list are vegan burgers from Soul Burger in Sydney; Bonta Vera in Newcastle; Kafe Kaos in Lorne; The B.East and The Reverence Hotel in Melbourne; Burger Got Soul in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport; Sugar Shack Diner in Adelaide; Mandala Organic Arts Café on the Gold Coast; and Lord of the Fries, with various locations.
