Former Foster Pup Becomes Adorable Adoptee
Evanston – After pawing through hundreds of photographs of adorable rescued animals, PETA has chosen the winners of its Cutest Adopted Companion Animal contest for 2016, and Bernard from Evanston has won the South Australia state title – and stolen our judges’ hearts!
A photo of him is available here
He was originally being fostered by his guardians, but they adopted him into their family after he won them over with his loving nature.
“Adopting Bernie was one of the best choices we have made, both for us and for our other fur child”, says his guardian. “They have quickly become best friends and never leave each other’s side. Bernie has the sweetest personality and can bring a smile to anyone’s face. He loves playing in water, chasing balls, and – most importantly – giving cuddles. We simply couldn’t imagine life without him now!”
Every year in Australia, hundreds of thousands of kittens and puppies are born in unwanted litters – far more than can ever be placed in good homes. Those who are not adopted – at least 200,000 healthy cats and dogs – must be euthanised.
“As anyone who has adopted an animal knows, nothing compares to saving a homeless one’s life”, says PETA Associate Director of Campaigns Ashley Fruno. “We hope Bernard’s story inspires people to adopt their next best friend.”
