Turntable and Instagram Star Strips Bare for Vegan Message
Sydney – She’s best known for her talent on the turntables, but now Dara Hayes – known to most as DJ Tigerlily – is turning heads in a new ad for PETA. Wearing nothing but a crown made of vegetables, she appears next to the message “Go Natural. Go Vegan.”
In an exclusive video interview with PETA, Hayes – who is also a marathon runner and mental-health advocate – reveals that the benefits of eating vegan are more than just skin deep.
“The best thing about being vegan is the way that it makes you feel, and the immense amount of energy and happiness that I get after every single meal,” she says. “I know that I am nourishing my body, I’m helping the environment, and I’m putting all my energy and good vibes toward a cause that I feel so, so passionate about.”
Scientific evidence shows that eating vegan is beneficial to human health, and those who avoid animal “products” are less prone to developing cancer, heart disease, and diabetes than their meat-eating counterparts. Vegans also have a smaller carbon footprint – and of course, they spare animals a lifetime of suffering and a terrifying death at the abattoir, where they’re strung upside down and their throats are slit, often while they’re still conscious.
Hayes joins a growing list of celebrities – including Nick Cave, Jason Gillespie, Kimbra, Hugh Sheridan, and Sia – who have teamed up with PETA and its affiliates to speak up for animals.
