Animal Allies Arrested at the Vatican Over Catholic Church’s Ties to Cruel Bullfights

Earlier today, PETA supporters in Europe were arrested at the Vatican during the Jubilee of Consecrated Life as crowds of monks, nuns and priests looked on in shock.

Wearing t-shirts reading “Stop Blessing Corridas!” and holding a banner featuring Jesus proclaiming that torturing animals is a sin, the action in front of St Peter’s Square was urging the Catholic church to cut ties with cruel bullfighting. It followed the news that a group of Franciscan monks, from the Capuchin Order, hosted an event in Las Ventas bullring in open defiance on The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Urge Pope Leo XIV to Stand Against Bullfights!

PETA is urging Pope Leo XIV to take a stand against bullfights. An overwhelming majority of people want to see an end to bull “fighting” – misleadingly named because the unwilling bull stands no chance of coming out alive – yet tens of thousands of bulls are being tormented and violently killed in bullrings and during local festivals every year. These gruesome spectacles are often held in honour of Catholic saints or during holy Christian celebrations, and many Catholic priests are actively involved in promoting this vile industry.

Please sign the petition to Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church, urging him to end the Church’s complicity in bullfighting – a blood sport that has no place in Christian celebrations.
