Danielle MacDonald: Animal Rights are Women’s Rights

“Women’s rights and animal rights are entirely intersected. It is a feminist issue” – Danielle Macdonald

Aussie actress Danielle Macdonald is standing in solidarity with all females in a new PETA campaign encouraging everyone to go vegan to spare the lives of cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals whose reproductive systems are routinely used and abused in the meat, egg, and dairy industries.

Danielle is known for her roles in Dumplin’, Patti Cake$, and The Tourist, and will soon be appearing in Nicole Kidman’s new dramedy series, The Last Anniversary. PETA is releasing her ad in honour of Women’s History Month which celebrates all females.

During the campaign shoot, Danielle also sat down with her best friends to chat about extending compassion and consideration to all species.

When we talk about the dairy industry, or we talk about chicken and eggs, these animals are forcibly impregnated … One of the main reasons that we’re vegan is because every meal is an opportunity to choose kindness and to reject industries that exploit animals.”

Females of other species feel pain and fear just as intensely as human females do, yet they’re routinely exploited for human use. For pork products like bacon, mother pigs spend vast parts of their adult lives confined to cramped metal crates, in which they cannot even turn around. So that humans can consume dairy products, female cows are repeatedly, forcibly impregnated to ensure a steady supply of milk – and are sent to slaughter once their bodies wear out. And for us to have eggs, hens are typically confined to less than an A4 sheet of space, have their beaks painfully cut short, and are slaughtered once their bodies are no longer deemed profitable.

Take a Stand Against Female Abuse – Go Vegan

The world needs female empowerment and solidarity now more than ever. When you consume meat, egg, and dairy, you’re supporting industries that rely on the exploitation of female animals. By choosing a vegan meal, you’re taking a stand for the rights of these animals and letting the world know that you’re with them.

Choosing vegan is easier than ever as Danielle pointed out in an interview with Bare Magazine, “[I]f you inform yourself on what you actually can eat instead of what you can’t, you find that the list is incredibly long and it’s not daunting like it can first seem”. Download PETA’s vegan starter kit or take our 30-day vegan pledge, and we’ll help you navigate a vegan diet and share valuable tips for making compassionate choices.
