Global Brands Group to Go Fur-Free!
After discussions with PETA US, Global Brands Group – which includes Aquatalia, Frye, and Spyder, all of which are available to Australian consumers online – has announced in its annual report that it will no longer sell fur in any of its future collections!
The company’s decision to scrap fur-trimmed shoes and coats proves once again that the future of fashion is vegan. Fur is dead, and we’re making sure every last retailer around the world knows it.
Again and again, PETA and its international affiliates have revealed the horrors inflicted on animals when they’re killed for their fur. Fur farmers use the cheapest killing methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and genital electrocution. Animals are sometimes still alive and struggling when workers hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them.
Wild animals trapped for brands like Canada Goose also suffer horrifically. By the company’s trapping standards, coyotes can be left in traps – where they may have sustained injures such as a broken leg or lacerations – for up to 72 hours. Coyote mothers desperate to get back to their starving pups have even been known to chew through their own legs in an attempt to escape. If the animals are still alive when the trapper finds them, they may be shot, bludgeoned, or cruelly killed in some other way.
Global Brands Group, which previously banned angora wool and ostrich skin, now joins the likes of Burberry, Prada,Gucci, Jean Paul Gaultier, Ellery, and many others that have banned fur.
