Marrickville Police: Heroes to Animals for White Ribbon Day

Posted on by PETA Australia

In a wonderful effort to help animal victims of domestic violence for White Ribbon Day, the Marrickville Local Area Command (LAC) organised a vegan sausage sizzle in Bridgewater Park, Rozelle to raise money for animals living in domestic violence circumstances.

The thoughtfulness shown by the Marrickville LAC for all victims of violence is truly inspiring. The local community is very fortunate to have such compassionate leaders.

Research shows a clear link between domestic violence and animal abuse. Around 70 per cent of domestic violence victims report that the perpetrator was also abusing or neglecting animals and approximately 60 per cent stay in abusive situations because they can’t bear to leave their animal companion.

Unfortunately, those who try to take animals with them are often turned away from refuges or government and private rentals.

PETA would like to thank the Marrickville LAC for being advocates for non-violence in every way this White Ribbon Day.
