Seeing How These Firefighters Rescued Kittens Will Melt Your Heart
For coming to the aid of two kittens in trouble during the past week, the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade will receive a PETA Hero to Animals Award.
On Monday, a tiny ginger stray cat was found stuck inside a pipe at the bottom of a dumpster. After local RSPCA officers were unable to free him, firefighters were called in to assist. The cat – now named Brian, after the firefighter who rescued him – had to be sedated and covered with olive oil before his rescuers could slowly pull him from the pipe.
The tired, dehydrated kitten was taken to a vet for a check-up.
This lifesaving action came just days after another kitten named Harry became trapped inside a washing machine when it was turned on at his Brunswick home. After seeing his face in the soapy water, his panicked guardians called Triple Zero, and firefighters arrived in time to free him with a crowbar.
“He’s spent the night at the vet and is on a course of antibiotics but will make a full recovery”, says his guardian, Lisa. “We’ve since stuck animal stickers on every appliance in the house to make sure we always check Harry is safe before we use them.”
