Say ‘Ugh’ to UGGs!

Say ‘Ugh’ to UGGs!

News / Say ‘Ugh’ to UGGs!
24 March 2017

Ugh, UGGs – just: Why?

UGG boots are made of shearling – that’s sheep’s skin with the fleece still attached. Sheep used for wool, skin, and meat live miserable lives. Every year, millions of sheep are castrated and parts of their tails are cut off – often without any painkillers – before they’re finally slaughtered for their skin, which is what UGG boots are made of. They endure all that cruelty just for a pair of boots.

It’s also considered “normal” in the Australian wool industry for approximately 3 million young lambs to die every spring.

We can’t stress this enough: Sheep killed for their flesh and skin are NOT in vast green pastures living their best life, getting a haircut once in a while, and being skinned only after dying of old age.

Sheep in Australia are typically crammed into crowded pens before being forced onto a massive, jam-packed ship swarming with disease.

Every single year, thousands die of starvation, being trampled on, or disease just on the way to slaughter in the Middle East and North Africa.

Sheep take care of each other and can recognise their friends’ faces, even if they haven’t seen each other for years. If threatened, a flock of sheep will run together for a short distance and then turn to face the danger as a group.

Sheep might try to protect themselves, but they don’t stand a chance against the industries that exploit them—they need your help.

UGGs aren’t just ugly: They’re disgusting.

And every time you or your friends see a pair, we hope you’ll remember this:

IT’S ON YOU TO STEP UP AND GET LOUD FOR SOME OF THE MOST VULNERABLE, ABUSED ANIMALS ON THE PLANET.

Say no to UGGs and all wool products, and tell UGG’s executives how you really feel by tweeting or posting on Facebook with the hashtag #UghUGGs.
