Controversial Vegan Tash Peterson Named PETA ‘Activist of the Year’

PETA Applauds Advocate’s ‘Bold Opportunism for Animal Rights’

Perth – In the name of animal rights, she’s confronted steakhouse diners while smeared with “blood”, stood topless in Melbourne’s winter cold, and written about the link between feminism and speciesism. Now, controversial animal activist Tash Peterson been named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) Activist of the Year.

Peterson has led two PETA demos – standing topless while “battered and bruised” to draw attention to the abuse sheep endure in the Australian wool industry and appearing wrapped in cling film as “human meat” in the centre of Sydney’s central business district.

Never one to be silenced, the PETA honouree has sparked countless discussions about animal exploitation on an international level in her time on the activism scene. Often arrested for her efforts, Peterson has faced charges relating to her animal activism on several occasions, often exposing her breasts – across which she writes vegan messages, such as “wear ur own skin” and “animal liberation” – outside the court.

“You have to admire Tash. She’s bold and never shies away from an opportunity to be a powerful voice for animals,” says PETA Campaigns Advisor Mimi Bekhechi. “PETA applauds her for using every single chance – and any means necessary – to remind people of the sensitive individuals who had to suffer for their meals, clothing, entertainment, and cosmetics.”

PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview, and notes that everyone can be an activist for animals simply by choosing vegan versions of products that traditionally stem from animal exploitation and slaughter.
