Despite cruelty-to-animals laws that carry harsh penalties, including fines and jail time, animal abusers are consistently under-punished, and their crimes are not taken as seriously as they should be.

The results are in: during the past four years, there has been a boom in the number of people going vegetarian in Australia.

In a move that could spare huge numbers of dogs and cats untold suffering, Victorian Agriculture Minister Jaala Pulford has announced plans to ban large-scale breeding facilities.

Christchurch resident and PETA supporter Kanchan Singh recently organised a fundraising extravaganza to support PETA’s campaign to stop the Chinese dog-fur trade.
