‘The Future’ is Vegan: Ian Machado Garry Proves Plant Power Fuels Champions in New PETA UK Campaign

04.08.2026

Sydney – Irish UFC welterweight contender “The Future” Ian Machado Garry – currently ranked #2 with a dominant 10-1 record – stars in a new PETA UK campaign spotlighting the game-changing impact of vegan eating and reminding everyone that “the future is powered by plants.”

In a video spot, the elite striker credits vegan foods for giving him the edge – helping him dominate in fights and recover faster than ever. The campaign launch follows the announcement that Garry will be competing for the welterweight world title against Islam Makhachev in Philadelphia on 15 August.

“Every fighter wants to be the best. For me, it starts with what I put in my body. Before I was plant-based, I was strong. But now, I’m on another level,” Garry says in the video. “Because strength isn’t just power. It’s clarity. Endurance. Discipline… I’m not just fighting opponents. I’m fighting limits to be the best version of me and the best athlete out there.”

PETA points out that pigs recognise their own names, chickens form complex social structures, cows develop friendships over time, and fish have long-term memories—but in today’s meat, egg, dairy, and fishing industries, piglets’ tails are docked without painkillers, chickens’ throats are cut while they’re still conscious, cows are forcibly separated from their beloved calves, and fish are cut open while they’re still alive. In addition to sparing nearly 200 animals every year, each person who goes vegan also bolsters their own health, as vegans are less likely to suffer from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone looking to make the switch.

Garry is part of a growing list of top athletes – including Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and tennis player Novak Djokovic – championing plant-based eating.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” –  points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a chicken is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org.au and follow PETA on Facebook and Instagram.
