LONDONDERRY FIREFIGHTERS TO RECEIVE PETA AWARD FOR HEROIC DOG RESCUE

Puppy Plucked From Drain

For Immediate Release:
20 February 2015

Sydney – For rescuing a 6-week old puppy who was trapped in a laundry drain on Kenmare Road, the firefighters of Fire and Rescue NSW will receive a Hero to Animals Award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Australia.

The puppy, Rev, apparently fell into a laundry drain and managed to swim up an S-bend pipe to a place where his cries were heard. The rescue crew dug down to the pipe and managed to pull Rev out unharmed. For these efforts, the Fire and Rescue NSW crew will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from PETA.

“The compassion and heroism shown by members of the Fire and Rescue NSW are truly an inspiration”, says PETA Australia Director of Campaigns Jason Baker. “Sydney residents are very fortunate to have emergency service personnel who are ready to protect and serve both residents and their beloved animal companions.”
