VICTORY! Anglicare Op Shops Introduce Fur-Free Policy

News / VICTORY! Anglicare Op Shops Introduce Fur-Free Policy

Great news for animals!

After discussions with PETA, Anglicare Australia introduced a fur-free policy in its op shops in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Victoria.

Branches in other states are also reviewing their policies regarding fur, and we hope all the Anglicare stores across the country will follow this lead.

As a direct result of its conversations with PETA, the organisation has also decided to review its ethical and environmental policies in general. This is positive progress – not only for animals but also for the planet.

By giving fur the cold shoulder, the charity is proving that it’s dedicated to advocating for justice and a good quality of life for all living beings.

Next time you’re out “op shopping”, pop in to an Anglicare store and thank the staff for the organisation’s compassion.

Next week is National Op Shop Week — Anglicare Sydney is calling on Fairfield residents to drop into the Fairfield shop, pick up a bargain and help raise funds for charity.

Why Be Fur-Free?

Animals on fur farms are confined to cramped, filthy cages before they’re drowned, beaten, strangled, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for fur coats, collars, and cuffs.

Fur from China is often deliberately mislabelled and may come from dogs and cats. If you wear real fur, there’s no easy way of knowing for sure whose skin you’re in.

PETA regularly communicates with Australian designers and retailers to raise awareness of the reality of the fur industry. Many brands have now committed to not using animal fur in their designs.

The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and Telstra Perth Fashion Festival have also completely banned fur.
