Alicia Silverstone and Son Recreate Iconic Paul and Linda McCartney Veg Campaign

News / Alicia Silverstone and Son Recreate Iconic Paul and Linda McCartney Veg Campaign
24 April 2020

As people around the world focus on their health during the coronavirus pandemic, Alicia Silverstone and her son, Bear, have used their time at home to recreate the iconic PETA US photo of Paul and Linda McCartney for a new ad that declares, “GO Vegan. STOP Eating Animals.”:

The campaign urges everyone to boost their immune system and help prevent the spread of deadly animal-borne diseases that originate in meat markets by cutting meat, eggs, fish, and dairy from their diets.

Sir Paul agrees that there’s never been a better time to make the switch:

“The meat trade’s threat to our health can be halted, and there are hopeful signs that people are starting to realise that this must be done to secure a brighter future for our children and theirs.” – Paul McCartney

In an exclusive video interview with PETA US, Alicia sat down with her 8-year-old son to discuss what it means to pay tribute to the Beatles icon and his late wife – who posed in the “Stop” and “Go” shirts together nearly three decades ago:

“I’ve been lucky to be an activist alongside [Paul] for the last 25 years, and he’s just an incredible man and an incredible heart. I’m so sad I didn’t get to meet his beautiful wife, Linda. But doing anything in his honor is extraordinary.” – Alicia Silverstone

Why Vegan?

COVID-19 originated in a “wet market” where live and dead animals were sold for human consumption. Filthy meat markets, factory farms, and abattoirs crammed full of sick and stressed animals are recognised by virologists to be breeding grounds for zoonotic diseases. Each person who goes vegan also spares the lives of nearly 200 animals every year and is far less prone to suffering from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer than meat-eaters are.

Inspired by Paul, Linda, Alicia, and Bear?

The link between outbreaks of diseases like COVID-19 and meat-eating is undeniable – and the solution is clear: to help prevent the emergence of killer diseases in the future, we must stop confining, abusing, and killing animals for food.
